Spring is the season for open windows and easy get togethers – and there’s no better way to celebrate the most comfortable of all seasons than with a laid-back brunch shared with friends. Equal parts relaxed and refined, brunch is a low-effort way to host, while also ensuring maximum enjoyment for you. Whether you’re gathering family, inviting a few close friends, or celebrating a special occasion, here’s how to set the scene for a memorable morning.

Start with the Setting

Brunch is all about the vibe – so begin by creating a light, easy-going space. Let the natural light in and keep your palette fresh: soft colours, nature-inspired greens and crisp whites are perfect for the season.

“Add texture and colour with printed linens and layered placemats, chargers and plates. Stick to two colours, like pink and green – using a mix of different shades of these colours in different prints – and add in neutral textures like woven rattan placemats or bamboo cutlery to create a cohesive table setting.

Personal touches go a long way – handwritten place cards take even a casual get-together next level, so guests feel more considered!” – Angie McKenzie, sharing her table styling expertise.

Bring the Outdoors In

Spring is also the season for flowers, so lean in. “I love to take inspiration from the flower market for my tables. Pick what’s in season and suits the mood you would like to create and build out the rest of your table around the flowers!

I love to use different items that inspire me from around the house – like a basket, champagne bucket or water jug – instead of basic vases, to create a beautiful floral centrepiece.

Pro tip: For a budget-friendly option, use bud vases scattered down the table with 2-3 stems per vase. It’s a great way to create a lush vibe using just 1-2 bunches of flowers!” – Table styling tips from Angie McKenzie.

Serve Something Seasonal

A spring brunch should be flavourful, fresh and unfussy. The kind of thing you can make ahead and enjoy together, not be stuck in the kitchen during service.

Think: smashed Avocado with Lemon and Chilli, poached Eggs on Sourdough, Smoked Salmon with Crème Fraîche and Dill, or a zesty Fruit salad with citrus and Mint. For a sweet moment, try warm Scones with Jam and Cream or a berry-studded French toast bake. And keep drinks just as light - fresh juice, fruit-infused Iced Tea, Sparkling Water with Cucumber and Mint, or a round of classic Mimosas.

Layer The Mood

Fragrance ties everything together and can elevate the energy of your gathering. Fresh, vibrant fragrances like Mango & Papaya or Pear & Lime bring in a lively feeling that really complements a sunny table spread.

Light up a candle in the centre of your table or place it anywhere you want to inspire energetic conversation. Or try Oceanique for a crisp, aquatic vibe that leans into the freshness that comes from spring. Want something flameless? Try placing a diffuser near the door to set the most welcoming tone that still feels relaxed.

A Scent For The Season

Think of scent as the invisible guest at your gathering. It adds atmosphere, stirs emotion and helps everyone feel a little more present.

If you host often, consider creating a scent ritual - always lighting Watermelon & Coconut or layering Lychee & Rose with a room spray - so your friends begin to associate that scent with time spent in your place.
