Daily Practice of Wakefulness

It’s only natural that you’ll find yourself overwhelmed by the occasional feelings of stress and anxiety. Deadlines, traffic, the news - these triggers are more likely to affect you when you’re already in a place of imbalance. The good news is that daily practice of wakefulness can help to build up resilience so that you’re better equipped to ride out a storm when it suddenly strikes.

Breathe. Slowly, deeply into your belly and hold it for four beats. Then breathe out for a count of four. You’ll instantly feel calmer and more centered. Concentrating on that breathing pattern at any point during the day will cultivate internal awareness and clear away cluttered thoughts from your consciousness.

Get moving. Even just ten minutes of brisk walking every day can increase mental alertness, energy and a positive mood. Take the long way to your morning coffee house to soak in the sunshine and take in your surroundings.

Aromatherapy. Scent has been proven to provide physical and psychological benefits by stimulating the olfactory system. Find a fragrance blend that soothes your senses in either a CANDLE or a FRAGRANCE DIFFUSER and keep it nearby.

Meditate. Meditate. Meditate. It may take a while to get the hang of it, but once you begin to practice daily it will prove the most important tool in your mental health kit. Finding your center is about letting go of all the unnecessary parts of your life and giving space to your true self and meditation will create that space. Before you know it, you’ll be facing triggers with more grace and competence that you thought was possible.
